Funding to Address Pandemic-Related Mental Health Issues
UPDATED: The U.S. Department of the Treasury launched the Coronavirus State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds, established by the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, to provide $350 billion in emergency funding for eligible state, local, territorial, and Tribal governments. The funds provide a substantial infusion of resources to meet pandemic response needs, and recipients have broad flexibility to decide how best to use this funding to meet the needs of their communities. The funds will be paid in two tranches and must be obligated by December 31, 2024.
The Treasury’s Interim Final Rule specifically calls out addressing the behavioral health impact:
“The pandemic’s impacts on behavioral health, including the toll of pandemic-related stress, have increased the need for behavioral health resources.”
